Week 5: Short Week, Pretty Boring Post

Monday, September 25th

During Sociology of Food, we went to the Chocolate Museum, which was the highlight of this school-week.

Museum of Chocolate

I think I'm supposed to be in chocolate bar packaging?

I spent the afternoon/evening doing laundry and hanging out.

I didn't have class today. I went to the library to do homework and work on my blog, met up with Christine and Sadie to go to a niche museum and get gelato, and hung out back at the dorm. The library ended up being the one with the infinite book tower, a popular Prague attraction, so that was cool to run into.

Famous book tower

Happy birthday, Mom!

I had a presentation on one of our readings in Sociology of Food and sat in the sun for awhile. That evening, Julianna agreed to watch the final episodes of Gossip Girl with me. I hadn't watched it since August, but was sucked right back in. It was chaotic and not a very good ending, but that's why we love it -- don't we, folks?

Had to send a pic of Chuck's sequined bowtie to my boyfriend that "hates" this show

Other Things

1. Prague Stumble Stones: These gold plaques are around the city outside of the last known residences of somebody that was deported between 1939 and 1944. I think it's a very touching way to memorialize those whose bodies have been lost. You can learn more about them here.

2. KFC knockoff: There is a restaurant that resembles KFC across the street from an actual KFC. I don't know who is choosing to go there because the prices are the same.

3. Astronomical Clock Crowd: This is what it looks like every time I try to walk past the Astronomical Clock.

4. Pigeons: I like the pigeons here because when you see them you can't help but think about alleles. There are the regular New York City-style pigeons, white pigeons, and brown pigeons. The white and brown alleles have to be dominant, otherwise they would've been wiped out by those pesky grey alleles.

5. Smoking: It's much more popular here. People smoke outside the dorm at night and the smell wafts into my room if I have the windows open. It gives me a headache, but I don't want to have to shut my windows because it's hot outside. The more I smell it, the more it bothers me -- DARE taught me well.

6. Price of Strawberries: A thing of strawberries that would cost $6 in the U.S. is $1 here, which feels like a big deal to me.
