Weekend 14: Christmas 5k

Saturday, December 2nd

I went to Naplavka Farmer's Market to look for some souvenirs. Despite the snow, it was busier than it had been during my previous visit. The swans were, once again, out in droves.

Then I went to Prostor 39 for an art market. It didn't end up being too interesting so I headed back to the dorm to prepare for the Christmas Night Run.

You read that correctly, I participated in a 5k at night in the snow for fun. Ella told me about it and I thought I would try it because I've been running more recently and trying to do it for fun instead of why-ever I was doing it before. I think when you grow up playing soccer, you tend to associate running with punishment and I always thought I needed to be running as fast as I could at all times. Now that I know I can run slower because literally who cares, I look forward to it and my (torn-ACL-&-surgery) knee no longer hurts as much afterwards.

We got there early to check in. There were supposed to be lockers, but the registration workers didn't know where they were so they told us to ask the reindeer. The reindeer was magical and could speak and told us they would be set up at 4. We went to the Old Town Square Christmas Market to pass the time, checked our stuff in, and then warmed up with Santa.

I'm super proud of myself and finished two minutes faster than my goal! I found myself getting  competitive and kept trying to pass the person in front of me, which I think is why I ended up finishing faster than I expected. The course was covered in snow, ice, and slush, but I think I liked it more that way because dodging puddles reminded me of dodging people in soccer.

Ready to go!

Imma catch you!

Wooo

I did it!!!

Sunday, December 3rd

Sadie, Aislinn, and I did work in the study room and then I went to the gym. I got roped into the ski world cup on tv and, after completing one 3-mile run, truly believe I could put up a fight in the giant slalom.
